The French Society of Hypertension (SFHTA*) recently published an expert consensus to optimize management of cardiovascular risk for women.

French Society of Hypertension has established a partnership with Women’s Cardiovascular Healthcare Foundation to alert women with high blood pressure at three key hormone stages. A tangible application of this partnership, the expert consensus entitled “HTA, Hormone et Femmes” (Hypertension, Hormones and Women) is accessible from the About Us > Publications menu to anticipate and take concrete actions through better screening, optimized gynecardiology treatments and coordinated follow-up care for at-risk women.
A group of multidisciplinary experts focused on the cardiovascular risk for women with high blood pressure at two hormone stages: contraception and menopause. They have proposed a new female classification of cardiovascular risk in order to assist doctors with disease management, especially when prescribing hormone treatments. Female-specific characteristics of hypertension were analyzed through etiological investigation and therapeutic particularities were investigated. Data from the literature on contraception and hormone treatment was also analyzed. Experts also highlighted the need to set up coordinated pathways for these at-risk women, bringing together the primary doctor as care coordinator with a cardiologist, hypertension specialist, gynecologist, pharmacist and occupational health physician. This consensus has 15 recommendations targeted to health professionals and women.
