The vast majority of women use contraception at some point in their lives. The method they choose varies based on their stage in life. Various hormonal and non-hormonal options are available.
It’s important to know the advantages and potential disadvantages of each contraceptive method in order to optimize the benefit-risk balance and to support high adherence for each woman, which will result in good contraceptive effectiveness. Each woman’s personal and family situation must be taken into account to determine the best contraception method, which will change over time.
In consultation with her medical practitioner, each woman will choose the method that is best suited to her personal situation and the pace of her life. Better information on all conception strategies allows women to be involved in choose the method, thus ensuring optimal effectiveness. Regular monitoring is essential. This allows the method of contraception to change over time when necessary.
