How Volunteering Improves Your Health

A study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine by a team of Harvard psychologists shows that adults 50 years and older who volunteer two hours per week have considerably lower risk of losing independence and of dying.

A study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine by a team of Harvard psychologists shows that adults 50 years and older who volunteer two hours per week have considerably lower risk of losing independence and of dying. This volunteer time also inspires feelings of well-being and improves their quality of life. The study was conducted with 13,000 participants in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and showed that volunteering protected participants from feelings of loneliness, depression and despair.
